Kitchen Safety for Kids — Camp Galileo Chefology

The Rules (Every Lesson, Every Time)

  1. Always wash your hands before touching food
  2. Tell your adult helper before turning on anything hot
  3. Dry your hands before touching anything electrical
  4. Handle knives blade-down and walk slowly
  5. Turn pot handles inward so they don't stick out
  6. Use oven mitts for anything hot — never a dish towel
  7. Clean up spills right away — wet floors are slippery
  8. Never put metal in the microwave
  9. Read the whole recipe before you start

Let's Cook!

  1. Clear the counter completely
  2. Wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds
  3. Put on your apron
  4. Walk through the kitchen with your adult helper and find: measuring cups & spoons, mixing bowls, rubber spatula, flat spatula, cutting board, kid-safe knife, oven mitts, the microwave, the griddle, the stovetop & frying pan, the oven, the air fryer, the instant pot, and the slow cooker
  5. Read through a recipe from start to finish before doing anything
  6. Practice: set up a workspace, then clean it up. Time yourself for fun!
