Ingredients & Tools
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Sandwich buns
- Ketchup
Tools
- Instant Pot
- Measuring cup
- 2 forks (for shredding)
- Large bowl
- Oven mitts
Let's Cook!
- Set up your station
- Place chicken breasts in the Instant Pot
- Measure 1 cup chicken broth and pour it in
- Add salt and pepper
- ADULT checks the sealing ring is in place
- Close the lid — turn until it clicks
- ADULT helps set the valve to SEALING
- Press PRESSURE COOK and set to 10 minutes
- Wait! It takes about 10 minutes to build pressure, then 10 minutes to cook.
- ADULT does a quick release — turns the valve to VENTING. Hot steam shoots out!
- Wait for the pin to drop before anyone touches the lid
- ADULT opens the lid (tilting it away from face)
- ADULT moves the chicken to a bowl
- YOU shred with two forks! Dig both forks in, pull them apart in opposite directions. Repeat until all the meat is shredded. It's like pulling apart string cheese.
- Build sandwiches: bun + shredded chicken + ketchup
Pro Tips
- The Instant Pot is loud when releasing steam — that's normal, don't be scared
- Shred while the chicken is still warm — it's much easier
- Save leftover chicken for wraps tomorrow (Lesson 3 callback!)
- A splash of the cooking broth over the shredded chicken keeps it juicy
Skills Checklist
- I measured the broth correctly
- I set the Instant Pot time with adult help
- I shredded the chicken with two forks
- I built my own sandwich
- I know: NEVER open a pressurized lid
